Use of Opioid Recovery Medications

An estimated 2.4 million individuals are living with an opioid use disorder, and most are not receiving treatment or not receiving the most effective care. The focus of this research is to understand the trends in utilization and healthcare payer mix of buprenorphine (a partial opioid agonist used to treat opioid addiction) medications and their use nationally and by state. This report has a particular focus on the extent to which buprenorphine is being funded under state-level Medicaid programs. The study was conducted independently by the QuintilesIMS Institute with funding support from Advocates for Opioid Recovery.
