Health economics research is increasingly used to support the decision-making process as well as disease management. Our HEOR team has longstanding experience in developing health economics models and evaluating the long-term clinical benefits and cost-effectiveness of therapies and treatment options.
Health Economics Evaluations
Political pressure is mounting in many countries for solutions that provide better access to affordable medicines.
A compelling need
Demonstrating the clinical efficacy and cost-effectiveness of products is now of paramount importance. Due to logistical and cost-related concerns, clinical trials tend to be conducted over a short time horizon (0-3 years) and focus on tightly controlled patient groups. However, economic evaluations often require information on the long-term consequences of treatment for a more diverse patient group, and consideration of additional outcomes such as patient quality of life.
The IMS HEOR Solution
Our disease simulation models allow the extrapolation of available evidence to generate relevant 'real-world' projection of outcomes. To demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of a particular treatment or device we generate country-specific, realistic projections of the costs and benefits both short and long-term.
With the large number of variables that need to be incorporated, from country-specific costs for hospital and outpatient-based treatment to measures of patient quality of life and patient compliance, this work demands expertise in the development of disease-based economic models and a detailed knowledge of health systems and patient management practices at the global and local level.
IMS offers a local and international health economics capability for developing models and projecting clinical and economic outcomes that address your needs. We have extensive experience in conducting health economic analyses in many disease areas.
We can develop disease-specific models to your specifications or deploy existing IMS models to perform a variety of economic analyses including:
