Utility values can be obtained from one of three groups: health care professionals, patients, and community groups. They can be derived from standard gamble, time trade-off (TTO) or multi-attribute utility (MAU) measures. Interviewer administered, as well as self-administered questionnaires are routinely designed by IMS HEOR for this purpose.
The analysis of qualitative and quantitative information collected from patient populations provides an insight into not only the impact of a condition, but also the impact that medication and adverse events have on a person's quality of life. Quality of life studies allow the issues of compliance and medication management to be explored.
