Market Segmentation
Generic perspective

IMS has been working with respected industry associations to develop a new protection-based market segmentation methodology.  This enables us, for the first time, to create an international standard definition of a generic product.  This means that it is now possible to truly compare generic markets across countries.

New IMS Market Segmentation will allow the identification of monthly trends and opportunities within the protected and unprotected market. IMS can fully support Generic companies in the evaluation and impact of strategic initiatives such as early entry generics and sizing and evaluating the level of market opportunity

The new metrics are designed so that clients have full flexibility to create their own customized definition of the generics market or to use the pre-defined definition that has been developed in association with leading international generics companies and the European Generics Association.

A newly developed methodology of estimated protection expiry provides more accurate patent position information. The methodology considers data exclusivity, SPC's, CCP's and market exclusivity to define patent position.

Focus on Protection expiration

The new protection expiry features estimates the patent expiration of pharmaceutical prescription bound products across major markets with new accuracy considering the new elements and the impact on patent position.

Evaluating market construction and drivers to growth is now possible utilising the name type feature. This feature shows which type of product is driving sales whether it is company branded, unbranded or original branded product in the market place.

This feature enables identification of prescribing preference in a market once a product protection has expired and the changing complexion of the market over time.
