Murray L. Aitken is senior vice president, Healthcare Insight, responsible for leading IMS's thought leadership initiatives worldwide. He joined IMS in July 2001 and was initially responsible for the growth and development of the company's consulting and services businesses. Named to his current role in August 2007, Aitken previously was senior vice president, Corporate Strategy. Aitken speaks regularly on the challenges facing the global pharmaceutical industry and the likely prospects for growth over the next five years.

He is regularly quoted in major trade and general media, including The Financial Times, Fortune, BusinessWeek, Associated Press and Reuters, and in 2005 was named by PharmaVOICE as one of the 100 most inspiring business leaders. Aitken chairs the Editorial Board of IMS Intelligence.360, an annual publication focused on the dynamics of the global pharmaceutical market. He also is editor of HealthIQ, a publication focused on the value of information in advancing evidence-based healthcare.

Prior to joining IMS, Aitken had a 14-year career with McKinsey & Company. He was a leader in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Products practice from 1997 to 2001. During this time, he served major pharmaceutical companies on a range of strategic and organizational issues for senior R&D and commercial management. He was among McKinsey's thought leaders on issues related to pharmaceutical licensing and direct-to-consumer marketing. Earlier in his career with McKinsey, he helped establish and develop the company's Seoul, Korea office where he was based for six years, serving the senior management of major Korean conglomerates. Aitken received an M.B.A. degree with distinction from Harvard University in 1987. He also holds a Master of Commerce degree from the University of Auckland in New Zealand.
